Garden Gym with Hidden Storage

In a past project in Chobham, we transformed a previously unused, sloping area of land into a stunning garden room gym in Surrey. Our client, Nick, had a narrow, awkward strip of land down the side of his house that had been overlooked for years. We saw the potential to convert this wasted space into a fully functional garden gym, solving the problem of underused outdoor areas.

However, the project presented some challenges. With underground cables running beneath the site, we couldn’t use our standard ground screws for the foundation. Instead, we used concrete piles to avoid damaging the cables and successfully levelled the ground, creating a stable base for the gym. This creative solution allowed us to safely and effectively construct the 5.8m x 5.3m garden gym.

The finished gym is a stylish, insulated space with 3m black aluminium bifold doors and a skylight that floods the interior with natural light. The gym is clad in Western Red Cedar, giving it a sleek, modern look, and Nick chose NAL55 Silvered Oak flooring from V4's Natureffect Aqualock collection. This laminate flooring offers the natural texture and appearance of real wood, combined with the durability needed for a busy fitness space.

One of Nick’s key requests was for a hidden storage area to house his lawnmower and garden tools. To accommodate this, we designed a storage room cleverly accessed via a secret door on the outside of the building. This allowed Nick to keep his equipment neatly stored without compromising the gym’s clean and modern interior.

The interior is designed for both functionality and comfort, featuring a gym studio with Wi-Fi-controlled air conditioning, LED downlights, and plenty of power sockets for gym equipment. The hidden storage area adds valuable practicality while maintaining the sleek, uncluttered aesthetic of the gym.
