This bespoke garden office in East Molesey was designed for a client who wanted a building that made a statement — something that stood apart from the typical cedar or composite-clad garden rooms. The result is a fully custom structure clad in Charred Spruce (Shou Sugi Ban) with aluminium Crittall-style doors.
The charred spruce cladding is treated using the traditional Japanese technique of surface charring, which creates a deep black finish and dramatically increases the timber's resistance to moisture, insects and UV. It requires no ongoing maintenance. The Crittall-style aluminium doors flood the interior with light while maintaining the industrial-modern aesthetic of the exterior. Inside, the office is finished to a high specification with plaster skim walls, engineered flooring, and a full electrical fit-out including a dedicated broadband connection via Cat 6a cable.
